“Always & Forever” is an acrylic painting on canvas that features Baguio City’s everlasting flowers, often strung together as necklaces. As seen in this painting, the flowers surround a common maya bird that holds a heart-shaped locket. The fusion of the everlasting flowers along with the locket and ribbons form a beautiful and sophisticated accessory symbolizing sentiment.
The artist’s use of a maya bird is representative of an individual, while the ribbon serves as a metaphor of one’s personal growth and life journey - both of which are common subjects used in the artist’s works. Overall, the painting depicts one’s deep, long lasting love for those cherished the most.
Joelle F. Bautista is an artist based in Baguio City. She took up Fine Arts at the University of the Philippines where she actively participated in exhibits and facilitated painting workshops. Passionate about collaborating and learning from others, she is currently an active member of the Pugad ni Art artist community, participating in local and national group shows that enable her to hone her craft.
Working primarily with paint mediums, she explores and expresses thoughts and experiences through the personification of flora and fauna. Her art creates scenes of plants and animals that, despite not being grounded in reality, perfectly represents human emotion and life experiences. A recurring motif in her work is the use of shiny ribbons as a symbolism of one’s craft, personal growth, and life journey. These elements combine to evoke a sense of transformation and connection within her imaginative compositions.
