The Tale of the Fire Flowers was inspired by a popular folklore in the mountain I lived on with my father. The story is about the ethereal fire or the Botiwtiw that glows in the night only to not leave any trace on where it burned. Legend has it that once you spot the Botiwtiw it’s a sign of good omen. For most of us in the Cordilleras, dreams often become a communicator of the seen and unseen, usually passed loved ones come and visit us in dreams. This is a portrait of my grandmother dancing with the Botiwtiw in the mountains. It’s a tribute to the beauty and magic our land holds.
